MCA (Masters in Computer Application) is a three year post graduate program. Every year lakhs of students are competing for a few thousand seats in India's top most universities like Delhi University , JNU, IIT-Roorkee, NIT's, Pune University , I.P . University to name a few . It's a tough road ahead and can be achieved only by your determination and self-confidence.

Eligibility Criteria

Bachelors degree or equivalent in any discipline with Maths as one of the major subjects in Senior Secondary Classes (XI & XII), from a recognised university is the minimum requirement for most of the institutes, however it may vary depending upon the university . Students appearing in their final year examinations are also eligible to appear in the entrance examinations.

Written Test

Most of the tests are of two hours duration. They have multiple-choice objective type questions. Mostly exams have negative marking. The test is aimed at testing the candidate's aptitude in five core areas with Maths being the major area of testing. They are :

Higher Mathematics

This section is designed to test your understanding of mathematics at 10+2 or graduation level. The questions are based on topics lik e Boolean Algebra, Co-ordinate Geometry , 2D Geometry , 3D Geometry , Calculus, Complex Numbers, Progressions, Permutation and Combination, Probability , Functions, Graphs, Maxima-Minima, Set Theory etc. The topics may vary as per the exam.

Quantitative Aptitude (QA)

The questions are based on various areas of pure mathematics such as arithmetic, geometry and algebra. The section would be more of a retro with questions on Numbers, Profit and Loss, Averages, Progressions, Percentages, Work, Speed, Quadratic Equation, Algebra

Statistics

This section is designed to test your analyzing power from a given set of data. The questions are based on different forms of data representation lik e tables, line graphs, bar charts, pie charts etc. Extensive calculations are required. So you better be fast and clear with your basics lik e averages, percentages, interest, mean, median, mode, regression lines etc.

Reasoning

This section would test your reasoning power. The questions would be based on Mathematical, Logical, Analytical and Verbal Reasoning.

Fundamentals of Computers and Programming Language

Computer Basics & C, C++ Programming Skills.

  • Delhi University
  • Eligibility: Any bachelor degree with 60% marks in aggregate with at least one paper in Mathematical Sciences (Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Operational Research). The candidates who are appearing in the final year examinations of the degree are also eligible to apply.
    Number of Seats for MCA: 46 seats.
    Admission Procedure: Admission to MCA course is based on Entrance Test (80% weightage) and Interview (20% weightage). There will be a negative marking of 1/3 for a wrong answer.
    Entrance Test shall consist of objective type questions from the following three components:
    • Mathematical Ability
    • Computer Science
    • Logical Reasoning and English Comprehension

  • Jawaharlal Nehru University
  • Eligibility: Bachelor's degree in any discipline with adequate competence in Mathematics under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 55% marks. The candidates who are appearing in the final year examinations of the degree are also eligible to apply.
    Number of Seats for MCA: 30 seats.
    Admission Procedure: Admission to MCA course is based on Entrance Test.
    Entrance Test shall consist of objective type questions from the following:
    • Mathematics & Probability (80%)
    • General Aptitude & Logical Reasoning (20%)

  • National Institute of Technology - NIMCET
  • Eligibility: Bachelor's degree in any discipline with adequate competence in Mathematics under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 60% marks. The candidates who are appearing in the final year examinations of the degree are also eligible to apply.
    Number of Seats for MCA: 30 seats.
    Admission Procedure: Admission to MCA course is based on Entrance Test. Negative Marking of 1/4.
    Entrance Test shall consist of 120 objective type questions from the following:
    • Mathematics - 50 Questions
    • Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning - 40 Questions
    • Computer Awareness - 10 Questions
    • General English - 20 Questions
